McGRATH HAILS MIDDLE ORDER

The former Australian fast bowler, Glenn McGrath, has said that England’s middle order batsman Ian Bell was the real difference between the sides in the recently completed Ashes series which Australia lost by 0-3.

Bell was the top scorer in that series with more than 500 runs. He scored 3 hundreds and a couple of half centuries. Every time England got into trouble while batting, Bell was always there to rescue them.

When asked about his thoughts on the recently played Ashes series, McGrath said, “I think Australia did well bowling wise, but, in batting, we struggled. We looked unstable.”

“The batting clicked in the last test match though and it’s a sign that the team is improving, but, we must accept the reality that we have been beaten comprehensively by England.”

“Ian Bell was the real difference between the two teams. He played some truly magnificent innings. If he hadn’t delivered every time, England would have struggled as well.”

When asked about the reports of rift in the Australian side, McGrath said, “I don’t think there is anything like that. I had spent a few hours with the boys when I was in UK and the environment in the camp seemed to be pretty good.” Asked whether he had had a bet at william hill cricket, McGrath admitted he had backed the Aussies to win.

When asked about his thoughts on DRS, McGrath said, “Before the Ashes, I was a great fan of technology being used in decision making. But, now, after what happened in the Ashes, I don’t have the same kind of faith in this system.”

When asked about the young Australian bowlers getting injured frequently, McGrath said, “The guys don’t get off seasons nowadays and that’s the main reason why they are getting injured so frequently. There are a few other reasons as well like some guys have mixed actions or some of them don’t have the required physical strength.”
